The Future of SEO if ChatGPT Replaces Search Engines

Google AI Overview: YouTube On, Reddit Out [New Study]

Google AI Overviews: YouTube In, Reddit Out [New Study]

Hey there! Ever wonder how Google’s AI creates those handy search summaries? Well, a cool new study by SE Ranking just spilled the beans. They looked at over 100,000 keywords in 20 different topics. Let’s check out what they found!

AI Summaries: Shorter and Sweeter

Guess what? Only about 7 in 100 searches now get AI summaries. That’s a tiny bit less than before. And these summaries are on a diet – they’ve shrunk by 40%! Now they’re about 2,600 characters long. Looks like AI is learning to get to the point faster.

YouTube is the New Star

You know how everyone loves YouTube? Well, so does Google’s AI! YouTube was the most linked site in these AI summaries. LinkedIn and Healthline came in second and third. It seems AI has great taste in websites!

Trust is Everything

Google’s AI is pretty picky about where it gets info. It really likes government (.gov) and education (.edu) websites. About 20% of AI summaries used .gov sites, and 27% used .edu sites. Smart move, AI!

What Topics Get the AI Treatment?

Some topics are like AI magnets:

  • Relationship questions: 41% got AI answers (AI as your love guru, anyone?)
  • Food and drink: 24% got AI summaries (AI’s got good taste!)
  • Fashion, pets, and shopping: These got fewer AI answers than before (Maybe AI isn’t into the latest trends?)

AI Loves the Top Spots

Here’s a fun fact: 94% of AI summaries had at least one link from the top 10 search results. Talk about playing favorites! Most links (73%) came from these top 10 results. AI knows where the good stuff is!

Surprise Guest: Indian Websites

Plot twist! About 10% of AI summaries included links to Indian (.in) websites. For sports and exercise topics, it was even higher – 37%! Looks like AI is going global.

The Big Goodbye: Reddit and Quora

Remember when Reddit and Quora were the cool kids? Well, in this study, they didn’t get a single link in AI summaries. That’s a big change from before. Poor Reddit and Quora!

What Does This Mean for You?

  1. Be trustworthy: Google’s AI likes respected sources
  2. Keep it snappy: AI summaries are getting shorter
  3. Use HTTPS: Almost all links (99.75%) in AI summaries use it
  4. Mix it up: Try to get some .edu and .gov links
  5. Know your stuff: AI acts differently for different topics
  6. Think big: You might be competing with websites from all over the world

Remember, Google’s AI is always learning and changing. It’s like a curious kid – always growing and trying new things. Keep an eye on these trends, and you’ll stay ahead in the search game!

So, what do you think? Pretty interesting stuff, right? Google’s AI is shaking things up in the search world, and now you’re in on the secret!
